Cabbage Osaka

French breeding for your table

The Osaka kale variety from the breeding house Vilmorin-Mikado is a prime example of how traditional crops are being reimagined within modern gastronomy. Developed in France, this variety quickly occupied a niche for premium produce aimed at the fresh market, where visual aesthetics meet superior leaf quality.

Features and Market Positioning

This variety is a benchmark for leafy cabbage. Unlike heading types, Osaka forms an expressive, intensely green rosette. Its key advantage is resistance to temperature fluctuations and high ornamental value, making the product highly sought after not only by professional chefs but also in the retail segment, where visual shelf appeal is paramount.

• Origin: France. Vilmorin-Mikado traditionally focuses on line purity and high growth vigor.
• Application: The primary sales channel is the fresh market, the restaurant industry, and fresh-cut processing (salad mixes).
• Agrotechnology: The crop is undemanding, though it requires attention to planting density to ensure the formation of a perfect leafy rosette.

Osaka’s reputation is built on yield predictability. Farmers value the variety for its stability: even under changing climate conditions, the leaves retain their succulence without becoming tough. It is a product for those professionally involved in the supply of vitamin-rich produce, where freshness and crunch are prized. Osaka by Vilmorin-Mikado is a choice for quality that is easy to sell to the end consumer, thanks to its attractive appearance and excellent taste profile.
