Barley Oryz

Resilience and Productivity: The 'Orvel' Advantage

The 'Orvel' barley variety, developed by the Institute of Plant Science of the NAAS of Ukraine, occupies a solid position in the agricultural market as a reliable spring crop. Designed specifically to navigate the volatile climatic conditions of the region, this two-row barley variety combines a short vegetation period with exceptional grain filling capacity, making it a preferred choice for farmers seeking predictability in their production cycles.

Agronomic Profile and Performance

With a vegetation period ranging from 72 to 85 days, 'Orvel' allows producers to manage harvest windows efficiently, even during seasons with irregular rainfall. Standing at a height of 70–85 cm, the plants demonstrate high resistance to lodging, which is vital for maintaining grain quality and reducing harvest losses.

• Disease Resistance: 'Orvel' possesses strong genetic immunity against common fungal challenges, including helminthosporiosis, net blotch, powdery mildew, and dwarf rust, significantly reducing the dependency on extensive fungicide programs.
• Grain Quality: The variety is characterized by high-weight kernels, with a 1000-seed weight reaching 45–52 grams. This ensures high throughput and excellent market quality for both feed and processing applications.

In the Ukrainian agricultural landscape, 'Orvel' is recognized as a 'workhorse' variety. It is highly valued for its adaptability to various soil types and its ability to deliver consistent results under standard management practices. Its combination of early maturity and disease resilience makes it an essential asset for operations looking to optimize their field performance while maintaining sustainable input costs.
