Pawpaw NOVOKAHOVCHANKA

A Breeding Breakthrough from the Kherson Region

Pawpaw (Asimina triloba), often called the "banana tree," has long remained an exotic novelty for many European growers. The "Novokakhovchanka" cultivar emerged as a solution to the market demand for a variety specifically adapted to the climate of Southern Ukraine. Developed by experts at the Novokakhovske Experimental Station, this variety has established a reputation as the most reliable option for both commercial orchards and home gardens in the region.

Agrotechnical Profile

Unlike many imported cultivars, "Novokakhovchanka" demonstrates resilience against the temperature fluctuations typical of the steppe zone. The plant reaches a height of 4–5 meters, making it suitable for intensive orchard planting or as a focal point in landscape design. The fruits are prized for their distinct tropical flavor—a blend of mango, banana, and pineapple—making them a high-value commodity for craft markets and artisanal food producers.

• Origin: Ukraine, Novokakhovske Experimental Station.
• Dimensions: Medium-sized tree (4–5 m), suitable for form pruning.
• Application: Fresh market, processing, and ornamental landscaping.
• Adaptability: Strong winter hardiness and resistance to local pests.

Investing in "Novokakhovchanka" seedlings means choosing a stable exotic crop that avoids the complex agrochemical requirements often associated with subtropical fruits. This variety delivers consistent yields and high-quality produce, proving that exotic fruit production is commercially viable in temperate climates.
