Seedlings of this culture require protection from direct sunlight during their first months of life. It is crucial to ensure stable air circulation to prevent the onset of mold and other fungal infections common in young plants kept in high-humidity conditions.
Once seedlings reach a height of 20-30 centimeters, they can be planted in their permanent location within greenhouses or specialized tropical nurseries. Field cultivation is only possible in regions with a tropical climate lacking any distinct cold season.

Calamus georgii belongs to the Arecaceae family and is a typical representative of rattan palms. This moisture-loving plant naturally inhabits the lower strata of tropical forests, requiring high air humidity and consistent warmth to thrive.
For optimal development, the culture requires soils with a high humus concentration and efficient drainage. The plant does not tolerate waterlogging, despite its affinity for irrigation, as it leads to rapid decay of the liana’s robust root system.
The temperature range for this species should remain between 22 and 32 degrees Celsius throughout the year. Any significant drop in temperature, especially below 15 degrees, induces a state of deep stress in the plant and may halt its growth entirely.
Light levels should be diffused, as excessive direct ultraviolet radiation can burn the long, pinnate leaves of the rattan. Ideal conditions include partial shading, mimicking the dense canopy of a tropical forest to ensure uniform stem development.
Agricultural techniques necessitate the installation of sturdy supports for the vines, as Calamus georgii stems possess active climbing capabilities. Without proper fixation, the shoots become intertwined, which complicates maintenance and lowers the quality of the industrial raw material.
Harvesting

Thermal treatment of the stems using steam or hot oil allows the rattan to reach maximum elasticity for furniture weaving. This stage is critical as it determines the final quality of export products used in interior design and furniture manufacturing.
