Botanically, it is characterized by its ability to thrive without soil, clinging to tree branches or rocky substrates. The plant possesses specialized leaf trichomes—microscopic scales that absorb moisture and nutrients directly from the air, enabling it to survive in canopy environments.

For successful maintenance, Tillandsia laxissima requires high ambient humidity levels and consistent temperatures ranging from 18 to 26 degrees Celsius. Providing a stable, warm environment with excellent air circulation is crucial to mimic its natural montane or forest surroundings.

The cultural practice involves mounting the plant on decorative wood or stones. Since it does not utilize a root system for nutrient uptake, the roots are primarily used for physical attachment, and the plant should never be submerged in soil or potting mixes.

Consistent light is essential for this species, favoring bright, filtered sunlight. Exposure to direct midday sun can lead to leaf scorching, while insufficient light may inhibit growth and flowering, requiring a balanced approach to placement in indoor or greenhouse conditions.
