The damage caused by Physidae involves feeding on plant tissues, specifically leaves and root systems. By scraping the epidermis with their radula, they create feeding scars that compromise the plant's structural integrity and serve as entry points for phytopathogenic bacteria and fungi, often leading to systemic decay.

The biological success of Physidae stems from their hermaphroditic nature and rapid reproductive cycle. They deposit gelatinous egg masses on virtually any submerged surface, including plastic containers, filters, and plant stalks. Under optimal temperature conditions common in greenhouses, their population density can double in very short timeframes.
