Description Shaloo
Spring barley variety Shaloo is a medium-early, short-statured two-row variety officially registered in the state register in 2015. This variety is characterized by high drought resistance and resistance to major diseases, including powdery mildew. The plant is upright, low-growing, well-branched, and its large elliptical grains are tightly held in the ear, preventing shattering. Shaloo is recommended for cultivation across all regions of Ukraine, including the Polissya, Forest-Steppe, and Steppe zones, and demonstrates stable yields at 7-8 tons per hectare.

Shaloo is suitable for both brewing and grain purposes. In conditions favorable for fungal diseases, fungicide application is recommended, and when grown after cereal crops, seed treatments are advised to protect against powdery mildew. Protein content in the grain ranges from 9.2% to 10.7%, and the 1000-grain weight is 46-53 grams, indicating high raw material quality.

Moreover, young barley, to which Shaloo belongs, is valued for its beneficial properties and rich vitamin-mineral composition. It contains vitamins C, E, B1, B2, B6, beta-carotene, folic acid, and trace elements — potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, zinc, silicon, and selenium. Due to these characteristics, Shaloo barley is not only a profitable agricultural product but also a valuable component of healthy nutrition.
