Watermelon SILVIA

French breeding for an ideal harvest

The 'Silvia' watermelon from Vilmorin-Mikado is a 'Crimson Sweet' type classic, adapted to the high demands of the modern market. French breeders have focused on stability and endurance, creating a hybrid that performs reliably in fields with high disease pressure.

Why choose this hybrid?

• Plant Health: The core strength of 'Silvia' is its genetic resistance to Fusarium wilt. In regions where the soil is 'tired' from intensive farming, this watermelon helps minimize losses and prevents sudden crop failure.
• 'Crimson Sweet' Consistency: You get the benchmark striped appearance, high flesh density, and excellent transportability. It is a product that reaches markets without damage, maintaining its premium commercial look.
• Farmer Profitability: Vilmorin-Mikado focuses on the professional segment. 'Silvia' does not require complex agrotechnical measures, delivering a predictable yield both in tunnel cultivation and open fields.

Pros and Cons

The primary benefit is predictability. You know exactly what result you will get when working with French-bred seeds: uniformity of the fruit and the rich flavor that consumers value. A point to consider is the need for a precise nutritional regimen; the hybrid responds vigorously to quality fertilization, reaching its full potential only when micronutrients are sufficient. 'Silvia' is the optimal choice for large-scale operations focused on retail networks, where visual appeal and shipping durability are the top priorities.
