Watermelon Oksamit

Technical Profile of the Oksamit Watermelon Variety

The Oksamit watermelon variety, developed by the Dnipropetrovsk Research Station of the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of NAAS, represents a specialized breeding effort aimed at balancing crop stability with commercial demand in Ukraine’s specific environmental conditions. The engineering behind this variety focuses on resilient fruit formation and predictable developmental cycles.

Structural Features and Market Specs

• Fruit Architecture: The rounded shape is a deliberate choice for mechanical integrity, effectively distributing internal pressure and reducing the risk of skin cracking during rapid growth phases.
• Weight Distribution: A range of 5.0–8.0 kg fits perfectly within commercial logistics standards, ensuring ease of handling, stacking, and shipping without requiring specialized packaging.
• Maturity Indicators: The intense red flesh color is a marker of efficient carotenoid synthesis and carbohydrate accumulation, ensuring a consistent consumer experience.

From an agronomical perspective, Oksamit is designed to tolerate the temperature fluctuations common in the region during the fruit-set period. The uniform rounded geometry significantly decreases post-harvest losses and waste during transport. For professional growers, selecting Oksamit means utilizing a genotype optimized for local soil types and moisture regimes. This variety provides a reliable baseline for farm operations, minimizing the need for complex recovery inputs while maintaining high marketability.
