Cherry variety Shalunyia is a medium-early, high-yielding variety widely grown and popular in Ukraine due to its excellent taste and resistance to adverse conditions. The tree is medium-sized, reaching up to 4 meters in height, with a broad, rounded, medium-density crown. Fruit-bearing begins in the third year after planting, and the yield at 10 years of age ranges from 30 to 40 kg. The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness and resistance to diseases such as moniliosis and coccomyces. Shalunyia cherry fruits are large, flat-round, weighing 5 to 8 grams, dark red or nearly black in color. The skin is firm but easily removable, the flesh is tender, juicy, and dark red, with a refreshing sour-sweet taste. The stone is small, round, and easily separates from the flesh, making the fruits convenient for fresh consumption. Due to its taste and fruit structure, the variety is widely used not only for fresh consumption but also for making compotes, jams, and other processed products. For successful pollination, varieties such as Chernokorka, Samsonovka, as well as cherry varieties Vinka and Valeriy Chkalov, are recommended, as Shalunyia is self-sterile. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and requires annual spring pruning to normalize size and yield. High resistance to diseases and cold makes this variety attractive for commercial cultivation and private gardeners, ensuring a stable and high-quality harvest.
