Kharkivskiy Korovay is a type of hard wheat variety registered in 2007 and recommended for cultivation in the Polissia, Forest Steppe, and Steppe regions of Ukraine. This medium-maturing variety is cultivated by the Institute of Plant Industry named after V.Ya. Yur'ev of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and is distinguished by high yield and adaptability to various climatic conditions in these zones.
The grain of the Kharkivskiy Korovay variety is characterized by large size, well-formed shape, and high gluten content. The vegetative period lasts 90-100 days, and plant height is 110-118 cm. The ear has a prismatic shape, white color with sharp edges, and lacks hairs on the ear scales. The grain belongs to the erythrospermum type and has stable high mass. Protein content in the grain is 14.4%, and a notable feature of the variety is increased gluten content, predominantly belonging to Group I with a deformation index of 68 units. Dough strength is 124 units, and bread volume is 430 ml, ensuring an overall bread-making quality rating of 4.2 points.
Kharkivskiy Korovay variety has high resistance to diseases, including immunity to infection by powdery and hard head fusarium, powdery mildew, tolerance to brown leaf spot, and moderate resistance to leaf septoria. Thanks to these properties and high yield potential (average 4.6 t/ha), this variety is recommended for producing food, technical, and feed grain products in the Forest Steppe and Northern Steppe zones of Ukraine.
