Tomato VOVCHIK

Cultivating the 'Vovchik' Tomato: Practical Field Notes

When selecting seeds from Agrofirma Aelita, consistency is what matters most. The 'Vovchik' variety is an indeterminate tomato that demands disciplined management but rewards the effort with a heavy yield. For those operating in greenhouse environments, this variety is a reliable choice for achieving high-quality, large-fruited production.

Management and Plant Architecture

Because it is an indeterminate type, consistent pruning and sucker removal are non-negotiable. 'Vovchik' shows vigorous vertical growth, necessitating sturdy trellising and timely vine support. Managing the plant to one or two stems is the standard operational procedure to ensure the fruit size stays consistently above the 200-gram mark.

• Maturation: With a maturation period of up to 90 days, it fits perfectly into a tight production schedule.
• Support: Due to the significant weight of individual tomatoes, secondary support for the trusses is recommended to prevent stem breakage.
• Nutrition: The variety responds well to potash fertilizers, which are essential for fruit filling and maintaining skin integrity.

Crop Performance

The flat-round, deep red fruit of 'Vovchik' is a market staple. The skin is sufficiently dense to resist cracking under fluctuating moisture conditions, and the post-harvest shelf life is impressive for a large-fruited variety. This makes it a practical choice for both home gardens and commercial small-scale sales.

In summary, 'Vovchik' is a workhorse variety from Aelita. It avoids the typical headaches associated with erratic hybrid behavior, provided that basic ventilation and pruning protocols are followed. It remains a steady, predictable option for those prioritizing fruit mass and overall volume.
