Technical profile of the Ingul sunflower variety

The breeding program of the Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute (Odesa) focuses on creating genetic material capable of mitigating regional pathogen risks. Ingul is a variety based on a classic genotype, adapted to the specific climatic conditions of Ukraine's steppe and forest-steppe zones.

Phytosanitary resistance as a foundation for yield

A critical node in the efficiency of any crop is tolerance to a complex of fungal diseases. Ingul implements comprehensive protection at the genetic level:

• Downy Mildew (Peronospora): The variety demonstrates high resistance, which is critical during the humid phases of early plant development.
• Phomopsis and Phoma: Breeding solutions have significantly reduced the risk of stem rot, a frequent cause of lodging and reduced grain weight.

Agronomic indicators and vegetation cycle

With a vegetation period of 115–118 days, Ingul is classified as a mid-season variety. This timeframe is engineered to optimize moisture utilization: the plant completes seed filling before the onset of peak arid phases common in southern regions. Technically, choosing a variety over a hybrid allows growers to use seeds from their own production for subsequent generations under proper seed-growing technology, thereby reducing production costs per unit.

Yield stability is achieved not through intensive application of stimulants, but through high plasticity to various soil types, making it a predictable tool for operations that prioritize conservative and sustainable agrochemistry.
