Sunflower Akord

Field Performance: Operating the «Akord» Hybrid

When selecting seed material for fields with high disease pressure, the focus shifts to pathogen control efficiency. Developed by the Institute of Oilseed Crops of NAAS, the «Akord» sunflower hybrid acts as a tool designed for low-stress field management. It is a Ukrainian-bred hybrid, optimized for local conditions, specifically engineered to simplify crop protection logistics.

Protection and Resilience: Reducing Treatment Costs

The primary advantage of operating with this hybrid is its full compatibility with the CLEARFIELD (EURO-LIGHTNING) herbicide system. This fundamentally changes the approach to crop maintenance: you handle weed control and key disease management issues in a single pass. The inherent resistance of «Akord» to downy mildew and charcoal rot allows you to minimize fungicide applications, directly reducing the cost per ton of final yield. The crop shows strong resilience against a wide range of pathogens, including alternariosis, verticillium wilt, rust, phomopsis, various rots, and powdery mildew, meaning less emergency field maintenance is required.

Practical Field Maintenance

Cultivating this hybrid does not require specialized agronomic skills, though it does demand strict adherence to herbicide application protocols. Because the hybrid is tolerant to imidazolinones, you maintain a clean field without the need to align tightly with specific weed development phases, providing a comfortable margin for application timing. The hybrid's recovery capacity under climatic stress is high—the genetic foundation established by the Institute of Oilseed Crops of NAAS has proven its consistency across various soil types in Ukraine, delivering stable results even with minimal intervention.
