The herbicide Desperado is a selective systemic protectant for corn, designed to effectively control a wide spectrum of broadleaf weeds, including those resistant to herbicides of other chemical groups. The active ingredient is mesotrione at a concentration of 480 g/l, which belongs to the triketone chemical group. The product is available as a concentrate suspension and is applied at a rate of 0.2–0.25 l/ha with the addition of surfactants (SPs).
The mechanism of action of Desperado is based on blocking the synthesis of carotenoids in weeds, which leads to the cessation of their growth within 1–2 days after application and complete destruction within two weeks. The duration of protective effect ranges from 40 to 60 days and depends on the application rate, weed species composition, their growth stage, and weather conditions after spraying. The herbicide can be applied up to the eight-leaf stage of corn, providing a wide window of application.
Desperado is characterized by high selectivity and rapid action, allowing effective control of annual and perennial broadleaf weeds. The product combines well with other agents in tank mixes, expanding its application possibilities. The herbicide is packaged in 5-liter cans, and the product hazard class is 2, requiring adherence to safety measures during handling.
