A vigorous hybrid of confectionery sunflower. Developed based on nanotechnology in Canada in 2011 by the well-known Canadian Holding SERTIS and the American Corporation DOW Chemical
Demonstrated excellent drought resistance due to Canada's harsh climate, and underwent hybrid trials in Canada, Krasnodar Krai, Samara Oblast, Rostov Oblast, Greece, Kazakhstan, Argentina, Israel — in Caesarea, Samaria, India, North Africa, Pakistan, where average temperatures reached up to +40°C *.
Plant height from 2 m — 2.15 meters, stem thick, straight, strong, massive, circumference at the base reaches 26 cm, root powerful, penetrating deep into the soil up to 8 meters, leaves large, flower heads diameter from 60 cm - 80 cm, seeds large, sweet in size (32 mm — 35 mm, from +13, +15 sieve size and above) with thick hull. 100 grams of confectionery sunflower contain 920 kcal, including vitamins A, B1, B9, C, E, K, PP, as well as microelements such as Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, Phosphorus, Manganese, Selenium, etc. The weight of a sunflower head is up to 5 kg in dry weight, while the weight of sunflower seeds is 750 grams. It exhibits good drought resistance up to +40°C*, characterized by uniform and complete maturation, resistant to lodging and shattering (heavy rains, hurricane winds, hail), harvested directly without desiccation.
This hybrid is resistant to all diseases affecting common sunflower varieties and hybrids (wolf, rust, powdery mildew, downy mildew, false rust, rust, fomoz, white, gray, ash, dry rot, septoria, ascochitosis, bacterial disease, angular brown spot, chlorosis, bacterial wilting, bacterial root rot of sunflower, macrophoma, etc.), and also resistant to harmful insects.
Resistant to abiotic stress. Resistant to soil salinity, high humidity, and high temperatures. Pollen does not burn at high temperatures. The oil content in confectionery sunflower hybrid CELVIN — 696 is 48% — 52%. This hybrid is self-pollinating and does not require the presence of bees. This sunflower hybrid was sown in Ukraine in 2012 in Dnepropetrovsk Oblast, Vinnytsia Oblast, Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Donetsk Oblast, Kyiv Oblast, Poltava Oblast, and showed excellent yield results of 48 — 50 centners per hectare. Canadian sunflower CELVIN — 696 tolerates early spring frosts well.
The 1000-seed mass of Canadian hybrid CELVIN — 696 sunflower is 140 — 150 grams.
Germination rate — 98%, Energy for germination — 98%, Purity — 99.99%, Moisture — 8%, Purity — 99.99%
The yield of confectionery sunflower hybrid CELVIN — 696 is 48 — 50 centners per hectare.
Sowing. Sow the sunflower hybrid early in spring from March 1st to May 30th inclusive at temperatures of +2°C*, +4°C*, as it is not afraid of spring frosts, seedlings emerge within 8 — 10 days.
The seeding rate of Canadian hybrid CELVIN — 696 per 1 hectare is 3.2 — 3.5 kg, sown at a depth of 8 cm, using square-nest or dotted sowing methods. Sunflower yield depends on planting density; for southern steppe regions, the optimal planting density is 19 — 20 thousand plants per hectare, for northern steppe regions 21 — 25 thousand, and for forest-steppe regions 27 — 30 thousand per hectare. For square-nest sowing, at 70 x 70 cm spacing, in forest-steppe regions, plant 1 — 2 plants per nest, and in steppe regions, plant 2 plants. For sunflower, fall plowing is recommended. Pre-sowing soil preparation should ensure a fine crumbly, well-cultivated soil. Only well-dried soil should be worked. Surface application of fertilizers simultaneously protects the soil from dust.
Herbicides should be used as needed depending on weed spectrum — Harness at 1.5 — 3 liters per hectare before sowing, immediately after sowing until emergence, Frontier Optima (0.8 — 1.4 liters/ha), Select at 1.4 — 1.8 liters per hectare regardless of plant stage, Centurion at 0.6 — 0.8 liters regardless of plant stage, Plenj at 80 grams per hectare at any stage of sunflower growth, Panther (1 — 2 liters/ha)
Fertilizers: recommended application rates are 80 — 85 kg per hectare superphosphate at sowing time, 110 — 120 kg per hectare nitroammophoska before sowing or at emergence. Insecticides are not used as this hybrid is resistant to all harmful insects, and no seed treatments are used at all.
The vegetative period of sunflower hybrid CELVIN — 696 from sowing to harvest is 95 — 98 days (early). Harvesting of Canadian sunflower is done using standard combine harvesters such as Don, John Deere, Case.
