Description Luch
Crown vetch is a perennial cover crop that adapts perfectly to various soil types, including acidic and ordinary soils. Thanks to its soft, thin stems, the plant is easy to harvest for hay, which does not cause bloating in livestock, and can be used as high-quality forage with up to 20% inclusion. Crown vetch serves as an effective predecessor for legumes (peas, beans, lentils), knapweeds, alfalfa, and sweet clover, as well as for cereal crops – barley, wheat, and oats. After sowing the cover crop, the area is plowed and vegetable crops are planted: peppers, tomatoes, and eggplants.

One of the key advantages of crown vetch is its natural protective effect against slugs – the plant contains substances that act as poison to pests. Furthermore, it attracts bumblebees and other pollinators, which helps improve soil fertility and increases the yield of subsequent crops. High protein content makes crown vetch a valuable food source for livestock, while soft stems allow its use as forage without the risk of digestive problems.

Crown vetch also has decorative properties: with proper care, it forms a dense, bright mat on sunny and rocky areas, making it a popular element of landscape design. The plant's flowers open sequentially in red, orange, and yellow shades, creating picturesque accents in the garden. To successfully grow it, you need to ensure well-drained soil, protect it from direct sunlight, and maintain regular watering, especially in cool weather. Sowing is done in early spring – before the second week of July, with rates of 80–100 g per 100 sqm for alternate sowing and 100–180 g for full coverage.

Thus, crown vetch combines agronomic advantages as a cover crop and forage, as well as decorative value for the garden and vegetable plot.
