Flax Zaporizhzhya Souvenir

Innovative Selection: Technical Profile of Flax

"Zaporizkyi suvenir" is a product of long-term breeding research conducted by Zaporizhzhia National University. Unlike traditional technical flax varieties aimed solely at fiber or industrial oil production, this variety is classified as a dessert type. This distinction necessitates a specialized approach to cultivation and agronomic management.

Phytopathological Resilience as a Technological Asset

The core engineering solution within the genotype of this flax is its complex resistance to pathogens that typically limit yield potential in the Ukrainian climatic zone. Genetic protection includes:

• Gray Mold (Botrytis cinerea): through the structural strengthening of the stem's epidermal layer and the specific composition of essential oils, the risk of infection under high humidity is significantly minimized.
• Mildew and Oidium: although these pathogens are more commonly associated with viticulture, the innate resistance incorporated into this flax variety ensures the stability of the vegetative biomass, even during extreme temperature fluctuations and intense solar radiation.

Application and Practical Value

The "dessert" designation implies the formation of seeds with enhanced organoleptic properties and an elevated content of polyunsaturated fatty acids. For agronomists, this translates into specific soil nutrition requirements during the grain-filling phase, as the realization of the flavor profile requires efficient mineral metabolism. Technologically, "Zaporizkyi suvenir" allows for production diversification, targeting the functional food segment and high-value seed processing markets.
