Melody

Potato variety Melody — this is an elite table variety of medium-late maturity, developed by Dutch breeders and registered in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2008. The vegetation period is 115–120 days. Tubers are oval-round, large, weighing from 96 to 179 grams, with smooth light-yellow skin and shallow eyes. Flesh is light-yellow, does not darken during boiling, making this variety universal for preparing various dishes. Starch content varies from 11 to 17%, providing moderate flesh density and allowing potatoes to retain shape during heat treatment, becoming soft inside and crusty outside when fried.

Melody variety is characterized by high yield — on average 176–335 centners per hectare, with maximum yields up to 636 centners. Plants are semi-erect, intermediate type. Tubers have high storability — about 95%, allowing storage for 7–8 months without loss of quality. The variety is resistant to most common potato diseases, including late blight, golden potato cyst nematode, crinkly and striped mosaic, and has moderate resistance to Phytophthora infestans (late blight) on tubers and bulbs.

For successful cultivation of this variety, regular soil loosening, timely application of fertilizers and watering are recommended. Due to its excellent taste and versatility in cooking, Melody variety is popular in Ukraine, Russia, and Moldova, suitable for both industrial cultivation and private farms. This potato is excellent for boiling, frying, and baking, maintaining an attractive appearance and pleasant taste.
