Golden Beard is a tall iris of the Iridaceae family, bringing bright gold-bronze shades and exquisite texture to the garden thanks to its ruffled color and bright yellow-orange beards. The flower stalk reaches a height of 85 cm, and the flower diameter is about 13 cm, making them eye-catching elements of beds of any height.
These irises are easy to grow: they do not require special soil conditions and grow well on most soil types, but prefer moderate moisture. If water is close to the surface, raise the beds and use a sandy layer to keep the rhizomes slightly above the soil level. Plant irises in spring from April or in autumn before the frosts; after flowering, they can be transplanted in summer.
For optimal growth and prolonged flowering, watering is needed only during the bud stage – this extends the blooming period. The distance between plants should be at least half a meter to avoid overcrowding and subsequent replanting. Irises love sunny places and are suitable for USDA zones 3–9, making them versatile in both moderate and colder climatic conditions.
