Heuchera Katrin

Technical Specifications of the 'Katrin' Heuchera

The 'Katrin' heuchera, developed by the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine, is a purpose-driven cultivar for landscape design. The core value of this variety lies in its highly stable pigmentation, ranging from intense red to deep burgundy. Unlike many exotic hybrids, this cultivar is genetically optimized for local climatic conditions, ensuring better resilience in the temperate zone when appropriate cultivation practices are followed.

Environmental Adaptation and Growth Cycle

• Light Requirements: The plant exhibits high adaptability to both direct sunlight and partial shade. The depth of the burgundy color is directly correlated with photosynthetic activity: increased solar exposure leads to denser pigmentation in the leaf blades.
• Growth Dynamics: 'Katrin' does not maintain winter foliage. This biological characteristic serves as a protection mechanism, where the plant sheds its aerial parts in winter to concentrate energy reserves in the rhizome, ensuring rapid regrowth of the rosette in the spring season.

Operational Use in Landscaping

The structural geometry of 'Katrin' makes it an efficient tool for organized planting schemes:
— Border Edging: The density of the leaf rosette allows for the creation of linear patterns with clean, distinct edges.
— Mixed Borders: Ideal as a focal point or contrast element, adding depth to flower beds through its dark palette.
— Container Planting: The root system is capable of thriving in limited soil volumes, making it suitable for portable containers, patio pots, and mobile landscape modules.
