Mode of action:
Kocide 2000 is a contact fungicide based on copper, providing protective preventive action against pathogens causing scab, spot diseases, late blight, alternaria, anthracnose, and other diseases on a wide range of crops, and also exhibits bactericidal activity — effective against bacterial spot diseases. Kocide 2000 creates a protective layer that prevents pathogen penetration into plants. Copper metal crystals adhere to the surface of treated leaves, and upon contact with water, divalent copper ions are released and become active against target pathogens.
After contact with treated surfaces, spores and bacteria rapidly absorb divalent copper ions, and as soon as toxic concentration is reached within the cell, the infection process is halted.
Divalent copper ions affect several key life processes of pathogens: protein structure, function of various enzymes, electron transport systems, and cell membranes. Due to its preventive activity and multifaceted effects on the pathogen organism, the product achieves high efficiency while simultaneously presenting a low risk of resistance development.
What is the difference between fungicides containing copper?
Not all copper-based fungicides are the same!
First and foremost, for a copper-based fungicide, it is important which chemical form of copper it is based on (sulfate, oxychloride, hydroxide, etc.), as well as its formulation (z.p., v.g., l.s., particle size of active ingredient, adhesion agent, etc.). Biologically the most effective form of copper among all is copper hydroxide (Kocide 2000). It is precisely copper hydroxide that exhibits rapid onset of action against pathogens, excellent persistence (resistance) on plants, and level of biologically active Cu2+ ions for successful plant protection against pathogens.
In Kocide 2000, a new unique principle involving two types of Cu2+ ions has been used. The formulation simultaneously contains strong chemical structures of copper hydroxide and unstable copper-containing compounds. Copper is present in the preparation in a complex polymerized form, regulating the release schedule of unstable Cu2+ ions, while simultaneously minimizing the risk of plant intoxication.
