Lilac cascade – a compact variety of the Dolichos vine, reaching heights of up to three meters and featuring high decorative value thanks to bright purple inflorescences. The plant's shoots are branched, not exceeding 30 pieces, with heart-shaped large pointed leaves, giving it an elegant look. After flowering, glossy purple pods remain on the shoots, adding additional aesthetic value.
This heat-loving and moisture-loving plant prefers sunny places protected from drafts and grows well in neutral soil with good drainage. Seeds are germinated in March or early May after preliminary soaking and pricking the skin with a needle; seedlings are planted in containers 2–3 cm deep, and then transplanted into separate containers after a couple of true leaves appear. To increase branching, young shoots are pinched after three leaves.
Care for the lilac cascade includes regular watering (twice a week in heat), mulching, and feeding once a week with superphosphates or a complex for legumes during flowering. After the flowers fall, you can use collected beans in cooking, as well as apply them in folk medicine. Thanks to its bright coloring and rich purple shade, the lilac cascade becomes an exclusive element of a garden or a living fence, adding coziness and beauty to the space.
