Svyatomykhailivska

Svyatomykhailivska — a medium-early variety of red currant, Ukrainian selection, developed in 1985 by crossing Johnker van Tens and Altai Early. The bushes of this variety are medium-sized, compact, and slightly spreading, reaching a height of about 1.5 meters. The branches are slender, and the clusters are of medium length and density, with a large number of berries that ripen uniformly in early to mid-July. The berries are bright red, round, weighing 1–1.5 grams, juicy with a dense, elastic skin and dry detachment. Svyatomykhailivska is characterized by high and stable yield, reaching 270–320 centners per hectare. The berries have a tart-sweet, refreshing taste, with a tasting score of 4.5 to 5 points. The sugar content is about 8.9%, organic acids — 1.8%, and ascorbic acid — 54.5 mg per 100 grams of fresh weight. The variety has high winter hardiness, good drought and heat resistance, and disease resistance, making it suitable for cultivation both in home gardens and on an industrial scale. Svyatomykhailivska is versatile in use: the berries are suitable for fresh consumption as well as for making various preserves, including jelly and other conserves. Due to its flavor qualities and resistance to adverse conditions, this variety is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a stable and high-quality yield of red currant.
