Cucumber Leon

Dutch breeding excellence

The 'Leon' cucumber by the Dutch company Pop Vriend Seeds represents the gold standard in bee-pollinated varieties. Born from the expertise of world-renowned breeding centers including A L Tozer and KWS Vegetables, this hybrid is designed for growers who prioritize consistency and traditional crop quality. It has carved a niche in the market as a reliable option for both open-field cultivation and greenhouse production, where natural pollination is supported.

Resilience and health

Modern agronomy demands varieties that can withstand biological pressure, and 'Leon' delivers exactly that. With proven resistance to Cladosporium cucumerinum (scab) and Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV), this hybrid provides peace of mind throughout the growing season. This genetic robustness is a hallmark of the Pop Vriend Seeds portfolio, ensuring that plants remain productive even when environmental conditions are suboptimal.

Agronomic profile

As a vegetative-type plant, 'Leon' requires proper canopy management to ensure optimal airflow and light distribution. The resulting fruit features a distinct light-green color and excellent texture, making it highly marketable for fresh consumption. Because it relies on bee pollination, the fruit quality is top-tier, offering that classic crunch and flavor that parthenocarpic varieties often lack. Whether you are scaling up your production or managing a small-scale plot, 'Leon' serves as a stable, high-performance solution.
