Cotton MAY 455

Turkish breeding on Ukrainian fields: the story of MAY 455

Cotton cultivation in Ukraine is entering a new phase, and the market entry of the MAY 455 variety is a significant indicator of this trend. Developed by the Turkish company May Agro Tohumculuk Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., this hybrid is the result of years of breeding work aimed at adapting the crop to the changing climatic conditions of Eurasia.

Registration path and state recognition

The official status of the variety in Ukraine was established in 2024, coinciding with its global registration year. The inclusion of MAY 455 in the State Register of Plant Varieties suitable for dissemination in Ukraine provides farmers with access to genetic material that has already proven its effectiveness in Turkish agro-ecological conditions. The creation method — selection (SZ), based on identifying the most productive lines — has resulted in a material with high plasticity.

Position in the crop structure

In the cotton segment, MAY 455 occupies a niche of high-tech hybrids focused on intensive farming. Unlike traditional varieties, this hybrid from May Agro demonstrates balanced development, which is critical for regions with a limited growing season. The variety owner, May Agro, focuses on technological efficiency: the variety is designed to maximize resource utilization and maintain stable yield indicators even during temperature fluctuations.

For Ukrainian farmers, choosing MAY 455 is an opportunity to work with breeding that has undergone rigorous quality and adaptation control. Given that the variety was registered in 2024, it stands as one of the most relevant offerings on the market, reflecting modern requirements for fiber quality and plant resilience.
