The corn hybrid Golden Eye (DKS 4608) belongs to the mid-late maturity group with high adaptability and stress tolerance. It performs well under both adaptive and intensive cultivation technologies, showing the highest cold and drought resistance, which ensures its wide cultivation across Ukraine. Average yield is about 117.17 c/ha, with the optimal sowing temperature starting from +8°C. The hybrid performs well both in monoculture and under traditional, minimal tillage, and No-Tillage technologies. A notable feature is its good moisture removal from the grain during ripening and strong grain retention in the ear, allowing for later harvest without losses.
Golden Eye is characterized by a strong stalk and well-developed root system, contributing to resistance against lodging and damage. The ear is cylindrical, 16-20 cm long, with 16-18 rows of kernels, each row containing 37-41 kernels, totaling 630-710 kernels per ear. The 1000-kernel weight ranges from 300 to 360 g. The grain is orange-yellow, with high starch content (over 72%), making the hybrid suitable for biofuel production as well as silage. High resistance to diseases such as fusarium and gray leaf spot, as well as to lodging, ensures stable yields.
The hybrid is suitable for table and canned use due to the grain’s good taste qualities at the milk-to-wax maturity stage and high content of vitamins and microelements. The recommended planting density depends on moisture conditions: 50,000-60,000 plants per hectare in dry conditions and 65,000-70,000 in well-watered areas. Sowing is conducted in April-May at a depth of about 4 cm with row spacing of 70×50 cm. Harvesting can be performed from June to September. To achieve maximum yield, timely weed control is essential, using herbicides against both grassy and broadleaf weeds, especially during the early vegetative stage.
