This variety was developed at the Far Eastern Experimental Station of VNIIR in 1978 from crossing the varieties 'Leto' x 'Peschanovalochnaya'. Authors: V.P. Tsarenko, N.A. Tsarenko. Introduced into the State Register in 1999.
The bush is low-growing, 1.2 m tall, wide-spreading, dense. Multi-year branches are thick, gray-brown, covered with numerous light lenticels and shedding bark. One-year shoots are reddish-brown, hairy. Buds are small, pointed, form in groups of three, the outer ones are generative, the middle one vegetative, hairy, strongly deviated from the shoot. Leaf blade is slightly concave, egg-shaped (4.3 x 2.9 cm), with a pointed base and sharp apex, corrugated, stiff, dark green, hairy with short hairs on the abaxial side, woolly on the adaxial side. Leaf margin is doubly serrated. Petiole 0.4 cm long, hairy. Stipules 2, serrated, linear, hairy. Flower (1-2) dish-shaped, medium-sized, 2.3 cm in diameter of the corolla, five-petaled, petals rose-colored, moderately open. Stamens 25, one pistil, hairy, stigma hairy. Calyx is oval, with strong anthocyanin, hairy on the outside, five sepals, toothed, hairy. Pedicel 0.7 cm long, hairy. Flowering and fruiting type is continuous along the branch: mainly on the previous year’s growth.
Fruit. Average weight 2.5 g, maximum 2.7 g, size 1.4 x 1.5 x 1.4 cm. Fruit shape is broadly rounded, apex rounded with barely noticeable beak, base with deep concavity. Fruit color is dark burgundy, nearly black at full maturity. Skin is shiny, covered with barely noticeable hairs, ventral suture in the form of a stripe. Flesh is red, tender, juicy. Juice is red. Peduncle length 0.5 cm, medium thickness, hairy. Stone is small, 0.16 g, constitutes 6.4% of fruit weight, does not detach from flesh.
Fresh fruits contain dry matter — 11.3%, sugars — 7.36%, acids — 0.69%, ascorbic acid — 25.3 mg/100g. Fruit appearance is striking, sugar content 7.36%, flesh with mild aroma. Taste is sour-sweet, very pleasant. Taste evaluation 4.0 points. Transportability is weak. Agricultural use is universal: consumption fresh and processing into juice, jams, jellies, pastilles, marmalade, preserves, wine and others.
Flowering period 10-17 May. Ripe fruit period 16-22 July. Grafted saplings begin fruiting in the 2nd year, rootstock plants in the 3rd-4th year. Plant longevity 18 years. Variety is self-sterile. Yield rating 3.5-4 points, fruiting is regular, increasing each year.
Average yield — 7 kg per bush at 7 years old. Variety is winter-hardy. In particularly severe winters, one-year shoots suffer from winter desiccation. Flower buds are winter-hardy. Variety is drought-tolerant, does not tolerate waterlogging. Resistant to coccomyces, relatively resistant to clasterosporiosis. During rainy periods, it is susceptible to moniliosis of fruits and flowers.
Production evaluation of the variety is high: yield, winter-hardiness, early fruiting, large fruit size, semi-dry fruit detachment. Easily propagated by green cuttings. Suitable for intensive orchards with nearby processing facilities; for nurseries and amateur gardening.
Advantages: low-growing bush, strikingly attractive fruits with high flavor quality, winter-hardiness.
Disadvantages: susceptibility of fruits to moniliosis under heavy fruit load.
