Description Eastern
This variety was developed at the Far Eastern Experimental Station of VNIIR in 1985 from a cross between the varieties Peschanovylchaya and Leto. Authors: V.P. Tsarenko, N.A. Tsarenko. Introduced into the State Register in 1999.
Medium-growing bush, 1.5 m tall, compact. Multi-year branches are thick, straight, gray, peeling, with transverse light lenticels. One-year shoots are brown, hairy. Buds are small, acute, form in threes, the outer ones generative, the middle vegetative, hairy, deviated from the shoot. Leaf blade is oval (4.0 x 2.8 cm), dark green, corrugated, with a pointed apex and sharp base. Leaf margin is finely serrated, blade surface hairy on the abaxial side with short hairs, and velvety on the adaxial side. Petiole 0.5 cm long, medium thickness, green, hairy, with two acute, linear, hairy stipules. Flower (1-2) bowl-shaped, medium size 2.3 cm in diameter of corolla, five-petaled, petals rose-colored, freely arranged. Stamens 24, single pistil, hairy, ovary hairy. Stigma is positioned above the anthers. Calyx is elongated-oval, with strong anthocyanin, hairy on the outside, five sepals, finely toothed, hairy. Flowering and fruiting type continuous along the branch: on one-year and multi-year wood (bouquet branches, fruiting twigs).
Fruit is large, average mass 3.3 g, size 1.8 x 1.7 x 1.7 cm. Fruit shape is oval with a slanted apex and rounded base with a deep pit, ventral suture barely noticeable. Fruit color is burgundy, skin hairy with short, barely noticeable hairs. Flesh is red, firm, juicy, cartilaginous. Juice color is red. Peduncle 0.4 cm long, hairy. Stone 0.22 g, light-brown, oval, constitutes 6.6% of fruit mass, does not detach from flesh.
Fresh fruits contain dry matter — 16.5%, sugars — 5.8%, acids — 0.5%, ascorbic acid — 24 mg/100g. Fruit appearance is attractive and eye-catching. Flesh is juicy, firm, cartilaginous. Taste is pleasantly sour-sweet, harmonious. Sensory rating 4.0 points. Utilization is universal: fresh consumption and processing into juice, jam, jelly, pastille, marmalade, preserves, wine, etc. Semi-dry fruit detachment. Transportability is weak. Not suitable for mechanical harvesting.
Flowering period 18-23 May. Ripening period 17-22 July. Fruits ripen simultaneously. Grafted saplings begin fruiting in the 2nd year, rootstock in the 3rd-4th year. Plant longevity 17 years. Variety is self-sterile.
High yield — 8.7 kg per bush. Bush, one-year and multi-year branches are resistant to winter frosts, flowers to spring frosts. Variety is drought-tolerant, does not tolerate waterlogging. Resistant to coccomyces, relatively resistant to clasterosporiosis. Under waterlogging, flowers and fruits are susceptible to moniliosis.
High production rating: cold resistance, early fruiting, high yield, large fruit size, semi-dry fruit detachment, longevity. Easily propagated by green cuttings. Suitable for intensive orchards with nearby processing facilities; for nurseries and amateur gardening.
Advantages: large fruit size, good fruit taste, high yield, semi-dry fruit detachment, high winter hardiness.
Disadvantages: fruit shrinkage under heavy fruit load, susceptibility to moniliosis.
