Cabbage Opal — an ultra-early hybrid from the Dutch selection by company Rijk Zwaan, intended for cultivation in greenhouses, polytunnels, and for early harvest in open ground under perforated film or agrofiber. The maturation period of this variety ranges from 45 to 55 days after transplanting seedlings, making it one of the fastest-maturing varieties on the market. In southern regions, under favorable weather conditions, Opal can be grown in open ground without covering.
The plant exhibits high resistance to diseases, tolerates low temperatures and sudden temperature fluctuations. For successful cultivation, regular watering, soil loosening, weed removal, mineral fertilization, and greenhouse ventilation are required. The hybrid is suitable for commercial cultivation due to its stable yield and low maintenance requirements.
The heads of Opal cabbage are round in shape, uniform in structure with a wavy surface and snowy-white color. Fruit weight ranges from 0.6 to 1.5 kg, reaching maximum values with proper care. Thanks to high head density, the cabbage withstands long-distance transportation without damage. The cabbage has excellent flavor qualities, is suitable for fresh consumption, and is widely used in culinary applications, freezing, and processing.
