Max Thieriot's 90-Acre California Ranch Features a Working Pinot Noir Vineyard and Family Wine Legacy

In 2013, actor Max Thieriot and his wife Lexi purchased a sprawling approximately 90-acre ranch in western Sonoma County, California. Located between Bodega and Occidental, the scenic property features rolling hills, mature oak and redwood trees, ocean views, and a deep connection to the region's winemaking culture. The location is close to where Thieriot spent his childhood.

A few years after acquiring the large property, the couple decided to transform a portion of the land into a working vineyard, establishing Bodega Thieriot. Planted in 2016 in collaboration with winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, the vineyard covers about nine acres of the estate. The remaining acreage is preserved as natural woodland, hills, and pasture surrounding the cultivated vines.

Farming grapes is deeply rooted in Thieriot's upbringing. He grew up on a separate vineyard property in Occidental that his parents purchased during the 1980s, recalling childhood memories of riding tractors with his father and participating in agricultural life. This early exposure inspired his eventual transition into commercial winemaking.

Bodega Thieriot focuses on cultivating Pinot Noir, a varietal well-suited to the coastal climate, marine air, and foggy conditions of the Sonoma Coast. The ranch's fence line also adjoins the Occidental winery operated by renowned winemaker Steve Kistler, cementing its place within a prestigious wine-producing microclimate.

While the property serves as a seasonal and off-season retreat—with the family's primary residence located in Washington state near the Canadian border since around 2024—it stands far apart from a typical celebrity home. The ranch represents a genuine continuation of a family wine legacy rooted in the soils of west Sonoma County.
