The seeds of this crop have high density and require preliminary scarification to improve germination rates. The optimal planting depth is 1–2 centimeters, which prevents the seeds from drying out in the top layer of the soil.

In industrial cultivation, sowing is carried out in rows to ensure uniform density of the grass stand. Under optimal moisture conditions, the first seedlings appear within 10–14 days after sowing.

An important stage is adhering to the sowing timeline, as the plant is sensitive to photoperiodism. Delayed sowing can lead to underdeveloped vegetative mass before the onset of the dormancy period.

Young seedlings require protection from weed competition during their first month of life. Mechanical weeding methods between rows are recommended during the early stages of vegetation.

Poecilostachys prefers well-drained, loamy, or sandy-loam soils with a neutral to slightly acidic pH level. The plant reacts extremely negatively to waterlogging in the root zone, which can cause rhizome rot.

The crop shows a high demand for intense sunlight for the normal photosynthesis process. In shaded conditions, the development of internodes slows down, which negatively affects the total biomass of the plant.

The plant has moderate temperature requirements, being adapted to high-altitude conditions. Optimal indicators for active growth are in the range of +18 to +26 degrees Celsius.

An important factor is soil availability of nitrogen and phosphorus, which are necessary for forming dense turf. Organic fertilizers help improve soil structure and moisture retention.

The crop shows moderate resistance to short drought periods, but regular soil moisture is required for obtaining a commercial yield of green mass.

The main danger for Poecilostachys plantings is soil-borne fungal diseases that develop under excessive moisture. Powdery mildew can affect the leaf apparatus in conditions of high air humidity and lack of air circulation.

Among pests, the larvae of scarab beetles cause the most damage by feeding on the plant's root system. This leads to a loss of turgor and can cause the death of individual areas of the grass stand.

Aphids can also infest young spike-like inflorescences, sucking sap and inhibiting the development of reproductive organs. Preventive agronomic methods are recommended for population control.

Following crop rotation allows for a significant reduction in pathogen accumulation in the soil. It is recommended to alternate the crop with legumes to restore the nitrogen balance.

Regular monitoring of leaf health allows for the identification of infection foci at an early stage. Timely removal of affected plants prevents the spread of infection to the entire field.

Harvesting of green mass is performed during the heading phase when the plant is maximally saturated with nutrients. During this period, the protein content in dry matter reaches its peak values.

For hay production, mowers are used to provide a cut at a height of 5–7 centimeters above the ground. This promotes faster regrowth of the aftermath after mowing.

Drying of the mowed mass should be carried out in field conditions with constant turning to prevent rotting processes. It is important to preserve the natural green color of the grass, which indicates a high carotene content.

For seed production, harvesting is conducted after the panicles have fully matured, when seed moisture drops to 14–16 percent. This helps to avoid losses during threshing.

Storage of the harvest should be carried out in dry, ventilated rooms protected from direct sunlight. Proper logistics and storage minimize dry matter losses.
