Botanically, Aeginetia is unique due to its root-parasitic nature. It uses specialized structures called haustoria to invade the host's root system. Most of the plant's life cycle occurs underground, with only the flowering stems emerging to disperse thousands of dust-like, wind-borne seeds.
The climate requirements for Aeginetia include high soil moisture and warm temperatures. These conditions are typical for rice-growing regions, where the plant thrives by tapping into the dense root networks of monocotyledonous crops, causing significant physiological stress to the host.
