Flax family

The origin of flax dates back to the Mediterranean and Southwest Asia. Today, it is cultivated globally, with key production areas located in temperate climates. Major producers, including Canada, Russia, and Kazakhstan, specialize in either fiber production or seed oil production, depending on the variety.

Botanically, flax is characterized by a slender stem that can reach heights of up to 120 cm, featuring delicate blue flowers. The root system is relatively shallow, which makes the crop sensitive to soil structure and moisture levels throughout the growing season.

Flax requires fertile, well-drained loamy soils for optimal development. It is sensitive to soil acidity and high moisture stagnation. A consistent supply of moisture is crucial during the early stages and the flowering phase to ensure high quality and yield of both fiber and seeds.
