Cyflumetofen
Active ingredient

Cyflumetofen

Description

Mode of action

Cyflumetofen belongs to the benzoylacetonitrile chemical class and functions as a specialized contact acaricide targeting the mitochondria of pests.

The mechanism of action involves inhibiting complex II in the electron transport chain of the mite's mitochondria, which effectively stops energy (ATP) production within the pest.

The substance exhibits a rapid "knockdown effect," causing immediate feeding cessation followed by the death of mites across all life stages, including larvae, nymphs, and adults.

A key advantage is the lack of cross-resistance with other acaricide classes, making it a critical tool for managing resistant mite populations in the field.

Due to its high selectivity, cyflumetofen is an excellent component of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs, as it minimizes adverse effects on beneficial insects and pollinators.

What it targets

This active ingredient is specifically designed for the control of various phytophagous mite species that cause significant damage to agricultural productivity.

The primary targets include members of the spider mite family (Tetranychidae), such as the two-spotted spider mite and other related species affecting various crops.

The product effectively controls mite populations that have developed resistance to organophosphates and many other conventional acaricidal groups.

It is widely used on a variety of crops, including vegetables (cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers), greenhouse ornamentals, as well as fruit trees and vineyards.

The efficacy is observed regardless of the mite's position on the leaf surface, provided that the application provides thorough coverage of the plant foliage.

Rates and timing

Application rates depend heavily on the severity of mite infestation and the specific crop type, so adherence to the manufacturer's technical label is mandatory.

Treatments are most effective when applied at the earliest signs of pest presence to prevent the population from reaching levels that cause significant economic damage.

Because cyflumetofen lacks systemic movement within the plant, thorough and uniform spray coverage of all foliage is essential for optimal performance.

The frequency of application is determined by the economic threshold and the residual protection period provided by the specific formulation used.

To prevent the selection of resistant strains, it is strongly recommended to rotate cyflumetofen with acaricides possessing different modes of action.

Restrictions

Since the compound is not systemic, the quality of the spraying equipment and application technique is the decisive factor for achieving the desired control level.

Operators must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling and applying the product to ensure safety and avoid skin or inhalation exposure.

Strict observance of the pre-harvest interval (PHI) is required for every crop to ensure that residues in the final produce remain within acceptable legal limits.

The product should be stored in its original, sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated location, away from children and unauthorized personnel.

Waste management must comply with local environmental regulations to prevent any runoff into water sources, sewers, or sensitive ecosystems.
