Mirids affect a vast range of crops, including vegetables, fruits, cereals, and industrial crops like cotton and sugar beet. Because they are sap-suckers, they can colonize plants at various stages of development. Their ability to move rapidly between crops makes them difficult to control, as they can quickly infest clean fields from adjacent wild vegetation.

The life cycle of Miridae follows a hemimetabolous pattern, consisting of the egg, nymph, and adult stages. Depending on the species and geographical location, they may have one or several generations per year. Eggs are typically laid inside plant tissue, providing protection against environmental fluctuations and some chemical treatments, which complicates early-season management.

Damage caused by these bugs is both direct and indirect. As they pierce plant tissues to feed, they inject enzymes that cause necrosis, chlorosis, and the shedding of buds or young fruit. In many cases, the physical damage is accompanied by the transmission of plant pathogens, which can lead to even more severe losses in yield and crop quality.
