Carnidae is a family of small, acalyptrate flies known primarily as saprophages. While most species in this family thrive on decomposing organic matter, some have been identified as opportunistic pests that can cause damage to agricultural crops, particularly in environments where plants are already stressed or decaying.

Vegetable crops are the most susceptible to infestations by Carnidae, especially when plants are affected by high humidity or previous mechanical damage. These flies are often attracted to fields with poor drainage or excessive rotting plant residue, which provide an ideal breeding ground for the fly larvae to develop and thrive.
