This distinctive insect is well-known for the large horn on the head of the males, giving it a rhinoceros-like appearance. It is a widespread species across various temperate regions.

Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of the rhinoceros beetle is lengthy, typically ranging from three to four years. Females deposit eggs in decaying organic matter such as compost heaps, piles of sawdust, manure, or hollows of ancient trees. The larvae are large, C-shaped grubs that consume decomposing plant material until they reach the pupal stage.
Nature of damage and harmfulness: The adult beetles cause damage by feeding on buds, young twigs, and the bark of trees. This feeding activity leads to weakened branches, stunted growth, and reduced fruit production.
