The primary economic impact of Corduliidae is observed in fish farming. The nymphs, or naiads, are voracious predators that inhabit ponds and can cause significant mortality among fish fry. In traditional agriculture, they do not directly feed on crops, but their dense presence in irrigation reservoirs may disrupt the microbial balance, potentially impacting the quality of water used for field irrigation.

The life cycle of emerald dragonflies encompasses the egg, nymph, and adult stages. The aquatic nymphal phase is prolonged, lasting several months to several years depending on the species and ambient water temperatures. Equipped with a specialized labium for capturing prey, these nymphs act as top predators within the micro-ecosystems of freshwater ponds.

The damage caused by these insects is largely centered on the aquaculture sector, where they compete with or prey upon juvenile fish. In plant production, they are not primary pests; however, the emergence of large numbers of adults can lead to the accumulation of exuviae, which may clog irrigation filters and mechanical components of water supply systems.

Management strategies focus on habitat modification and mechanical control. In aquaculture, maintaining clean and controlled water environments, utilizing fine-mesh screening, and periodic pond drying are essential to break the life cycle of the nymphs. Promoting natural predation by waterfowl can also serve as a non-chemical method to regulate population densities in large-scale nursery ponds.
