These insects primarily target plants from the Rosaceae family and some coniferous species. The most well-known representative is Batrachedra praeangusta, whose larvae feed on willows and poplars, damaging buds and inflorescences, which can lead to reduced productivity in forestry and landscaping settings.

The life cycle of this pest is typical for small moth-like insects. Females lay eggs near the future feeding sites of the larvae. The larvae go through several instars, living mainly in a concealed state inside buds, under the bark, or within silk webs on leaves. Pupation occurs in dense cocoons, often at feeding sites or within bark crevices.

The nature of the damage is defined by the larval feeding habits. When buds are affected, the development of the plant's reproductive organs is disrupted, leading to ovary drop or shoot deformation. Harmfulness manifests as weakened tree immunity, loss of aesthetic value, and potential mortality of young seedlings during periods of massive pest outbreaks.
