Japanese fiorinia (Fiorinia japonica) is a small scale insect species belonging to the Diaspididae family. Adult females are hidden under an elongated, flat, brown to yellowish-brown shield, often with a white waxy coating.
Males are rare and much smaller in size. The female body itself is pear-shaped, yellow, and remains firmly attached to the surface of needles or leaves throughout its life.
A key identifying feature is the shape of the scale, which tends to widen towards the posterior end. Colonies appear as numerous scales densely covering the underside of the needles.
Reproduction is sexual, yet the species exhibits high fecundity, allowing the population to rapidly colonize new areas of the host plant.

What it damages
