Black Prince

Watermelon Black Prince is a mid-late variety of table use with excellent taste qualities. The fruits have a cylindrical shape and dark green color, weighing from 7 to 9 kg. The flesh is bright red, very sweet, with a sugar content of up to 10.4%, which gives the watermelon a honey-sweet taste. Seeds are of medium size and black color. This variety is a universal hybrid of domestic breeding, bred based on wild African varieties and considered an analog of the elite Japanese watermelon Densuke. The Black Prince watermelon is suitable for fresh consumption, long-term storage, and canning. It is intended for growing both in polyethylene greenhouses and in open ground. Sowing for seedlings is recommended in late April, and transplanting seedlings in late May or early June, when the plants reach 30-35 days of age. For optimal growth, plants are tied to a trellis, removing side shoots up to a height of 50 cm and pinching subsequent ones above the 1-3 leaf. Growing in free culture in a horizontal position is also possible. Watermelon care includes moderate watering, especially during fruit ripening. The recommended planting scheme is 70x150 cm, which ensures good yields of up to 5-6 kg per square meter. The fruit skin is of medium thickness and elastic, which contributes to the preservation of watermelons during storage. Due to its characteristics and taste qualities, the Black Prince variety is popular among gardeners and lovers of sweet watermelons.
