Tomato Askold

Field Performance of the Askold Hybrid

When planning a planting campaign, agronomists prioritize predictability and operational efficiency. The Askold tomato hybrid, developed by the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Production, offers high-yield potential within an intensive farming cycle. The main advantage for an operator is the rapid maturity cycle: reaching harvest readiness in just 90 days allows for precise market entry planning.

Operational Economics

• Plant Density: The recommended rate of 30,000–35,000 plants per hectare ensures optimal water utilization for drip irrigation systems and streamlines inter-row cultivation.
• Yield Potential: With an output of 70–100 tons per hectare, this variety is highly viable for commercial-scale production.
• Logistics: The fruit weight of 80–100 grams, combined with excellent firmness, ensures high shelf life and minimal damage during transport to end-users.

Disease Resistance and Maintenance

For a farm operator, Askold significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications. Its genetic resistance to leaf mold (Cladosporium), powdery mildew, and cucumber mosaic virus mitigates major risks during humid or fluctuating weather conditions. Reducing the chemical burden not only lowers production costs but also simplifies compliance with spray schedules. The plant forms a manageable, compact habit, which facilitates maintenance and mechanical harvesting, thereby reducing harvest-time losses.
