YVS 4 sunflower hybrid is a simple inter-line, high-oil content, and early-maturing variety of an intensive type, created at the Southern-Eastern Research Institute of Plant Breeding and Selection (NIISKh SE). The hybrid's pedigree includes the sterile maternal line YV 16 and the paternal multi-head line YV 932, ensuring high productivity and trait stability. Plants reach heights of 140-160 cm, have a sturdy stem, and a flat head with a diameter of 20-25 cm, which droops slightly during the physiological maturity period. Seeds are large, dark gray, with a 1000-seed weight of 65 to 90 g, containing 50-52.5% oil, making the hybrid attractive for producing high-quality sunflower oil.
YVS 4 differs in its good adaptation to continental climate conditions and resistance to major sunflower diseases, such as downy mildew and rust, as well as tolerance to white and gray mold. Thanks to these qualities, the hybrid demonstrates high yield — averaging about 2.57 tons/ha, with record indicators reaching up to 4.20 tons/ha. The hybrid is well-suited for modern cultivation and processing technologies, and in sparse sowings it forms large seeds, which increases its commercial value.
Using YVS 4 sunflower in agriculture ensures a stable and high seed yield with good oil quality indicators. The hybrid is recommended for cultivation in regions with a warm climate, including the Lower Volga region and other territories with continental climate conditions. Its high productivity, disease resistance, and adaptability make YVS 4 a reliable choice for farmers seeking maximum return from sunflower crops.
