Sunflower VK 508

Genesis and Breeding Context

The VK 508 sunflower hybrid emerged from a strategic partnership between Russia’s V.S. Pustovoit Federal Scientific Center and partners from the Beijing Economic-technological Development Area. Led by breeders Yakov Demurin and Sergey Efimenko, the development of this hybrid aimed to merge regional hardiness with the demands of modern intensive farming techniques.

Technical Specifications and Agronomic Value

VK 508 is specifically engineered for growers employing the "Clearfield" (Euro-Lightning) production system. Its primary strength lies in its tolerance to imidazolinone herbicides, which grants farmers a robust mechanism for weed management in heavily infested fields without compromising crop health.

• Oil Content: The hybrid consistently yields between 45–50% oil content, meeting the rigorous standards of modern processing facilities.
• Crop Structure: With a mature height of 140–150 cm, the plants offer an excellent balance between biomass production and mechanical harvestability, showing strong resistance to lodging.

Market Positioning

For the producer, VK 508 represents a reliable solution for high-stress agricultural environments. By combining the historical breeding excellence of the Pustovoit Institute with advanced herbicide-tolerance traits, the hybrid provides a stable, predictable performance. It is an ideal candidate for professional operations prioritizing both yield quality and operational flexibility in weed control programs.
