The NS H 556 sunflower hybrid, also known as Sumo 556, is a high-yielding and stress-tolerant variety developed in Serbia. It is characterized by high drought resistance, cold tolerance, and resistance to major diseases, including all races of false powdery mildew, rust, fusarium, septoria, and rot. Thanks to its strong and well-developed root system and wide, spreading leaves, this hybrid effectively retains moisture in the soil and suppresses weed growth, which is especially important when grown using No-Till and Strip-till technologies across various climatic zones of Ukraine.
NS H 556 exhibits high resistance to herbicides based on tribenuron-methyl, such as Granstar, Express and their analogs, allowing their effective use against broadleaf weeds without harming the crop. The hybrid can tolerate single applications of herbicide at a rate of up to 50 g/ha or two applications of 25 g/ha each, providing flexibility in agronomy and supporting high yields on weed-free fields. For enhanced herbicide efficacy, surfactants or adhesives are recommended.
NS H 556 plants have upright stems reaching 170-180 cm in height with a vegetative period of 107-112 days. Seeds are black, medium-sized, and contain 48-50% sunflower oil, making the hybrid attractive for oil production. The hybrid’s yield potential reaches 48 centners/ha, and with intensive application of microfertilizers, yields of up to 4.8 tons/ha are possible. The hybrid demonstrates high resistance to lodging and shattering, facilitating harvest and reducing yield losses. Recommended for cultivation in all climatic zones of Ukraine, provided optimal plant population density is maintained for maximum productivity.
