SY IRISA AR is a mid-early hybrid sunflower of the linoleic group, developed by Syngenta for cultivation in the central and northern steppes of Ukraine. The hybrid exhibits an extensive type of adaptability, ensuring its resilience to various climatic conditions and enabling stable yields ranging from 29.6 to 43.3 centners per hectare at a seed moisture level of 7%. The oil content in the seeds is 48–50%, making this hybrid attractive for producing high-quality oil.
One of the key features of SY IRISA AR is its high drought and heat tolerance, as well as high initial growth energy, which promotes rapid plant development during early vegetative stages. The hybrid demonstrates good pollen basket filling, is not prone to lodging and shattering, facilitating harvest and improving yield quality. It also shows resistance to major races of downy mildew (A-G) and some new forms, as well as to pathogens causing false powdery mildew, phomopsis, and sclerotiosis.
For crop protection, the innovative A.I.R. technology is used, allowing the application of herbicides based on imazamox, imazapir, or tribenuron-methyl, effectively controlling weeds and volunteer plants. The recommended sowing rate depends on soil moisture: 35–45 thousand seeds per hectare under insufficient moisture, 45–50 thousand under moderate moisture, and sowing is not recommended under adequate moisture. The hybrid is highly adaptable to sowing dates, with mid to late sowing periods being optimal. Crop rotation is recommended to maintain soil health and maximize productivity.
