Smolensk Flax is a unique cultural and historical object dedicated to the development of flax farming in the Smolensk region. The museum is located in the Nicholas Tower of the Smolensk Fortress wall and features an exhibition including plough implements as well as authentic tools for growing and processing flax. Special attention is paid to traditional Smolensk costumes, which are presented with belts and headgear such as andaraki, sayany, and sorokokliny, as well as diverse embroidery, block printing, and lace. Visitors to the museum have the opportunity not only to learn about the history and traditions of flax farming but also to actively participate in master classes. Here, you can learn to weave belts on traditional tools — dostechki and berdyshek — and make a doll in a national costume with your own hands. In addition, the museum organizes ritual holidays, which allows for a deeper immersion in the cultural heritage of the region. The Smolensk Flax Museum is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, except on Mondays, which are non-working days. On Fridays, operating hours are reduced to 17:00.
