Melania potato — a new table variety of medium-early maturity, developed by staff of the Institute of Potato Growing of NAAN of Ukraine. This variety is characterized by round-oval shaped tubers with pink skin and creamy flesh. Starch content in tubers ranges from 15.5–16%, ensuring high taste quality, rated 8.1–8.3 out of 10.
Melania demonstrates high yield when proper agronomic practices are followed, reaching approximately 45 tons per hectare at the end of the vegetation period. The variety shows resistance to stem nematode, potato cyst nematode, and the common race of potato late blight. Additionally, it is relatively resistant to phytophthora, alternaria, viral diseases, and mechanical damage, making it a reliable choice for cultivation.
This potato is drought-tolerant and adaptable, allowing successful cultivation under various conditions. The variety is resistant to degeneration, ensuring maintenance of its quality characteristics even with repeated use of seed material. Due to its combination of high productivity, disease resistance, and excellent taste qualities, Melania is a promising variety for table consumption.
