Biscaya ® — a unique systemic insecticide based on the active ingredient thiamethoxam, belonging to the chemical class of chloronicotinilides.
The unique chemical composition of the active substance makes the product completely safe for bees, allowing its use directly during crop flowering.
Biscaya ® is non-toxic to bees and hoverflies — both adults and larvae — and does not repel pollinators (unlike many other products), thus maintaining the maximum possible level of pollinated flowers. It should be noted that approximately one-third of rapeseed flowers are pollinated by insects.
Biscaya ® has the most modern formulation — oil dispersion. It was developed using vegetable oil specifically for treating crops whose leaves have a tough waxy layer, poorly wettable, and capable of retaining only a small amount of working solution. The formulation ensures overcoming the unfavorable properties of leaf surfaces and improves retention and wetting. The small particle size of the active substance and the presence of an oil film on the leaf surface significantly enhance the distribution of the product and its resistance to wash-off. In addition, the gradual dissolution of the active substance in the oil film ensures uniform and rapid uptake by plant tissues.
When treating other crops, both well and poorly wettable leaves, Biscaya ® ensures faster penetration of the active substance into leaves compared to traditional formulations.
The systemic nature of the product ensures a prolonged period of protective action.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Biscaya ® stimulates continuous excitation of the nervous system, causing insects to convulse and ultimately die.
The product acts both through direct contact with pests — contact action — and by ingestion of treated plants (including sap-sucking pests feeding on plant sap) — gut systemic action.
Translaminar action — when the active substance comes into contact with the plant, it gradually dissolves in the oil film and, with the aid of additional substances that dissolve the waxy layer, penetrates into the plant.
Systemic action — due to the ability of the active substance to move through plant vessels in an upward direction, it reaches newly formed plant parts.
Anti-feedant effect — a distinctive feature of the product’s action on pests is the atypical knockdown effect — insects do not die immediately but continue to sit on the plant. However, their feeding stops within the first hours after treatment, neutralizing their harmfulness. The time between cessation of feeding and death shortens with increasing temperature.
